Hugh Cornwell comes to Southport – The Atkinson on Saturday 28th November 2015!

Hugh Cornwell is one of the UK's finest songwriting talents and accomplished live performers.
As the original guitarist, singer and main songwriter in the British rock band The Stranglers, he's enjoyed massive success with 10 hit albums and 21 Top Forty singles, etching himself into Europe and the USA's musical psyche with classic songs, including Peaches, No More Heroes, Golden Brown, Nice N’ Sleazy, Always the Sun and Duchess.
Cornwell's latest studio album Totem And Taboo was released to rave reviews. Recorded at Electrical Audio Studios in Chicago, the album was engineered and mixed by the legendary Steve Albini.

Hugh Cornwell
The first Anthology of solo work - with brand new studio recording – and tour
On 28 August 2015, Hugh Cornwell will release “The Fall And Rise Of Hugh Cornwell” through Invisible Hands Music, on LP and CD [Cat Nos IH61, IHCD61]. The first ever anthology of his post-Stranglers career, twenty five years on from leaving the band, this album brings together twelve choice Cornwell classics taken from the first six solo albums, plus one brand new studio recording, “Live It And Breathe It” [on CD format only]. Hugh Cornwell is also touring a major acoustic tour of the UK in November 2015 [see hughcornwell.com].

His first solo record “Wolf” (1988) was released whilst still a member of the band but, since leaving The Stranglers in 1990, Hugh Cornwell has made series of well-received solo albums including: “Wired” (1993), “Guilty” (1997), “Hi Fi” (2000), “Beyond Elysian Fields” (2004), “Hooverdam” (2008) with producers including Tony Visconti, Laurie Latham and Liam Watson. “The Fall And Rise Of Hugh Cornwell” includes two tracks from each of these six albums, plus the 2015 recording “Live It And Breathe It”.
Hugh Cornwell is one of the most important figures in punk and new wave music. He was the lead singer, guitarist and songwriter in one of Britain’s most loved and most influential bands of all time, best known for their hits “Golden Brown”, “No More Heroes”, “Peaches” and “Always The Sun”. Always ahead of the curve, he has made headlines both with the music and innovative approaches to reaching new audiences over the years, being at the forefront of experimentation with free downloads and crowdfunding.

A Visit To Urban Coffee Lounge Queensferry

Those who know me well will know my deep passion for good cake!! I call it a passion because I just love cake, but with good cake has to come amazing coffee. So when I was contacted by Richard Lavender who told me he had recently opened a coffee lounge in Queensferry. I was keen to check the place out. When I told Radio Deeside's main man Barry Dale about the visit he quickly pulled rank expressing how he had to come along and also check out the cake selection!! On arriving at Urban Coffee Lounge I quickly noticed how spotlessly clean the place was, everything neatly in its place. The smell of coffee hit me just as I reached the counter, I opted for the cappuccino, Barry, on the other hand, decided on a nice mug of tea with one eye closely on the cakes!!! There is a choice of seating area's within the coffee lounge as well as a seated area outside, The traditional table and chairs also lounge style chairs with coffee table or there is a bar style seated area with h...

Elvis set to beat Lady Gaga to UK No.1 album

Elvis Presley looks set to become the solo artist with the most amount of UK No.1 albums. The late singer's new effort 'The Wonder Of You' is today (October 24) 3,500 combined sales in front at the top of the UK singles chart. The record - which features reworkings of songs by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra - will give Elvis his 13th No.1 album in the UK. This would mean he would become the solo artist with the most amount of UK No.1 albums, beating Madonna's 12. At No.2 on the midweek update meanwhile is Michael Bublé's 'Nobody But Me', while Lady Gaga's 'Joanne' enters at No.3. Leonard Cohen's 'You Want It Darker' debuts at No.4 and Kings of Leon's 'WALLS' drops four places to No.5. Status Quo’s 'Aquostic' is a new entry at No.7, David Bowie's 'Lazarus' musical soundtrack enters at No.8 and Korn's latest effort 'The Serenity Of Suffering' shoots in at No.9.

STEVE HARLEY ACOUSTIC TRIO – NOVEMBER UK DATES STEVE HARLEY is back on the road with his Acoustic Trio line-up, accompanied by virtuoso players and long-standing Cockney Rebel members, James Lascelles (piano/percussion) and Barry Wickens (violin/guitar/mandolin). After a summer of outdoor shows with the full rock band, Steve returns to the more intimate UK concert halls and promises a show full of hits, fans’ favourites and plenty of improvisation. From JUDY TEEN to MAKE ME SMILE, plus the latest single ORDINARY PEOPLE, via SEBASTIAN and many more favourite album tracks, there will be lots for the fans to inter-act with, as is always the way of a Steve Harley performance. Rod Stewart, who has recorded Steve’s song A FRIEND FOR LIFE on his latest platinum-selling album, described the original Cockney Rebel as “One of the finest lyricists Britain has ever produced.” The acoustic show prompted this from the Portsmouth Evening News - “A consummate performer at ease with one...
